Halloween is just around the corner. It’s a time when leaves change color and fall to the ground, a cold wind blows in from the northwest, and big-box retailers begin carrying scary decorations.

As if we need more creepy stuff lurking around Wal-Mart.

So this weekend’s quest was to find costumes for the kids. The 8 year old opted for skeleton crypt keeper that falls into the scary category while being far enough from the grotesque category, just enough to not scare the 3 year old.

The 3 year old has been undecided, and uninterested, when shown her choices.. We decided to find her a puppy dog costume similar to the one she used last year and outgrew. It was warm and fell into the category of cute costumes.

So, most of the day was spent driving around the city to the big boxes, toy stores and specialty Halloween stores, looking for a dog outfit that was in the right size and would be warm enough for our late October weather.

Anyway, by the end of the day, we came up empty, and Julie found one on the internet.

Then the 3 year old, having made up her mind, said “I want to be a ladybug.”

Luckily that, too, is on the internet. And at a good price.
