A few weeks ago we took a trip back to the Quad Cities, and during one of the breaks from visiting relatives we checked out the bluff-side trails at Black Hawk park in Rock Island.

We used to spend a lot of time here. The trails wind through the steep incline that channels the Rock River. There are a few minor cliffs, some overhangs, a small picnic shelter at one end of the trail and huge lodge at the top.

This time we didn’t get very far. There was a large washout that cut the trail in half. We hiked around on the down-river side of the washout and were able to take in some of the features. We made it down to the river and tossed a few rocks in.
