My buddy George Stiller (OK, he’s not actually a buddy, I just read his blog) at  MyReadingMapped sent me this gem that follows the Swedish Royal Geographical Society explorer Mikael Strandberg in an interactive Google Map of his current 2012 expedition in Yemen.

Strandberg struck out on camels to cross the Arabian country on a goodwill mission. There is plenty of great photos and travelogues as well as some khat chewing and harassment by authorities.

The map — billed as an “innovative experiment in real time mapping and reporting” — is updated with Strandberg’s written reports, photos, route and location information in order to get a personal glimpse of what it is like to be an explorer in Yemen in these difficult times.

So, play around with the map and take a peek at Strandberg’s
blog which has longer stories and a few videos.
