Somewhere in the fog of life, with work and chores and sundry other obligations, I was able to slip away for a few minutes to appreciate the mists drifting through the pond.

A few weeks ago, I had some time between assignments in the morning and pulled into a nearby lakeside park to shoot the morning fog.

Morning fog, bridges, a river and a fisherman are all cool elements for a photo.The challenge here was composing the shot, trying to get everything positioned just right. I wanted to get close enough so the viewer can tell it’s an angler but not too close to make him identifiable. I also wanted to keep him far enough out so he would be visible only in silhouette. I wanted to keep the feeling that it could be anyone out there.

I took a few closer shots but didn’t like them. He was less of a silhouette, and I had to work the angle to keep other guys on the banks — beers in hand — out of the shot. It just ruins the feeling of the solitary fisherman out in the elements.

Another problem was the autofocus on the digital camera (the Kodak), which didn’t know what to zero in on with the fog at a distance.
